🌍 Organic Uganda Bugisu (GP) – Heritage in Every Sip
Sky Roasted Coffee proudly presents Organic Uganda Bugisu (GP), a bold and storied coffee from the western slopes of Mt. Elgon, where rich volcanic soil, high elevations, and generations of tradition converge. Grown at 1,300–2,000 metersby smallholder farmers in Kapchorwa, Bulambuli, and Kween, this fully washed lot is part of the renowned Bugisu coffee legacy—a name that carries both cultural pride and exceptional quality.
With low acidity and a very high body, Bugisu GP delivers a deep, indulgent cup. Notes of dark chocolate, black licorice, and molasses dominate the profile, balanced by an above-average sweetness and a smooth, grounding mouthfeel. It’s a coffee with presence—dark, rich, and unforgettable.

🌿 A Legacy Rooted in Resistance & Revival
“Bugisu” is more than a name—it’s a tribute to the Bugisu tribe of Mt. Elgon, whose long struggle for autonomy during colonial rule culminated in the founding of the Bugisu Cooperative Union in 1954. This historic union transformed coffee into a powerful engine of economic empowerment and regional unity, elevating the Bugisu name to become synonymous with Uganda’s finest coffee.
Today, that legacy is preserved through the Sipi Falls Coffee Project, spearheaded by exporter Kawacom, who operates both central wet mills and direct-purchase programs from smallholder parchment producers. With farms as small as half an acre and traditional home-processing methods still in practice, Kawacom maintains quality through localized buying offices and strict traceability protocols—ensuring every bag of Bugisu GP meets both organic certification and specialty-grade standards.
🛠️ Processing & Profile
This lot is fully washed and patio-dried, often at the homestead level. Despite the humble infrastructure—borrowed pulpers, bucket fermentation, tarp or mesh drying—the result is a clean, rich cup that reflects both the rugged mountain terrain and the meticulous efforts of the farmers. The inclusion of SL14, SL28, and Bourbon varietals adds structure, sweetness, and density.
💧 Brewing Recommendations

Espresso: A creamy, dark shot with molasses depth
-
French Press or Drip: Bold and velvety with chocolatey weight
